A young black bear had to be destroyed over the weekend.

Mounties and Fish and Wildlife officers were running down reported sightings of a black bear on the east side, starting around the noonhour on Saturday.

One person reported an encounter with the bear where the animal behaved aggressively.

Mounties and Fish and Wildlife officers tracked the bear to the Cobblestone neighbourhood, and were forced to destroy it.

Officials say the animal stood its ground instead of running off, and it's because of this behaviour that it was destroyed.
